Webinar - HIA Practitioners take the microphone

In March 2015, the Centre presented the first webinar of the series Practitioners take the microphone. During this series, practitioners are invited to share their experience in terms of health impact assessment (HIA) with public health actors who are interested in this practice. This series is designed to allow time for discussion among participants and each webinar will address a specific HIA issue.

The webinar gave the microphone to an HIA practitioner who talked about stakeholder consultations during the HIA process and the integration of the knowledge gained from these consultations into the assessment. Ronald Macfarlane, manager at Toronto Public Health and a longstanding promoter of HIA with international involvement, shared the HIA experiences gained in his organization. He presented an approach that has been developed to learn about the concerns and the perspectives of groups of people who may be affected by a project. He discussed the challenges and benefits of this approach with participants.
