Framing the Core: Health Inequalities and Poverty in Saskatoon's Low-Income Neighbourhoods |
|
This document presents a description of the five key frames used respectively by Quint Development Corporation and the Saskatoon Health Region in discussions of the communities they serve. These frames orient their definitions of the populations they serve, the key problems and their determinants as they see them as well as the main approaches to resolving them.
The document proposes that an awareness of the frames used by not-for-profits and public health actors can contribute to more successful partnerships to tackle issues of common interest.

Last June, the NCCHPP participated in the Canadian Public Health Association's annual Conference at the Palais des congrès in Montréal. As part of this meeting, the Centre organized two training workshops. The two PowerPoint presentations used during these workshops are now available online.

Workshop - NCCHPP Method for synthesizing knowledge about public policies - CPHA 2011 |
|
During the pre conference, Florence Morestin and François-Pierre Gauvin presented a half-day workshop, entitled "A method for producing knowledge syntheses on public policies that are both rigorous and relevant to policy makers - Hands-on workshop”.
The objective of this workshop was to initiate participants in the use of a knowledge synthesis method adapted to public policies that focuses not only on effectiveness data but also on implementation issues.

Workshop - Public Engagement in Public Health Ethics - CPHA 2011 |
|
The NCCHPP's Christopher McDougall and François-Pierre Gauvin led a 90-minute workshop, entitled "Public engagement on Public Health Ethics: Approaches, Evidence and Insights for Developing Policy on Controversial Issues"
The objective for this session was to explore the why and how of using public ethics deliberation strategies to inform public health research, practice and policy.

During a training event among the 6 National Collaborating Centres for Public Health, the Centre's Val Morrison and François-Pierre Gauvin offered an overview of the concept of wicked problems and presented deliberative processes as one way to begin to approach them.

A Survey of Ethical Principles and Guidance Within Selected Pandemic Plans
This document provides a survey of the explicit goals, ethical principles, and ethics-related recommendations put forward by a selection of national, sub-national and international pandemic preparedness plans and policies.
It also provides a concise comparison of several ethical frameworks in order to help us to think about how we might deliberate to justify difficult decisions in the context of an actual public health emergency.
