Public Health Ethics in Practice: Impact and relevance of ethical frameworks on decision-making during the H1N1 pandemic.
On March 17, 2010, the NCCHPP hosted a workshop of practitioners and experts in public health ethics to discuss applied ethical analysis in public health practice and policy. The meeting aimed to examine the relevance and use of ethical deliberation in the context of a public health emergency. It also aimed to explore the unmet needs and directions for the continued development of applied public health ethics tools and guidance.

Case Studies of Ethics During a Pandemic
The general aim of this series of cases is to illustrate a wide range of pandemic and infectious disease control scenarios in which professional roles and responsibilities generate ethically complex situations. The cases aim to assist in the development and application of moral reasoning through concrete examples.

Winnipeg Vibrant Communities Symposium
The Vibrant Communities Symposium was held from March 9 to 11, 2010, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The goal was to share social, economic, environmental and cultural perspectives of what makes a “Vibrant Community” in order to develop a Vibrant Communities Charter while building a common vision for the future. |

The theme of the pre-symposium workshop was Health Impact Assessment as a promising tool to foster healthy public policy at the local level. To open the workshop, the NCCHPP presented the theoretical background of HIA.

Advocacy in public health - CPHA 2010
The NCCHPP is organizing a day-long preconference workshop on Public Health Practitioners and Public Health Advocacy. This workshop will explore the role of advocacy for influencing healthy public policies. HIA and Inequities - Briefing Note
This is the second in the series a series of briefing notes intended to introduce key dimensions of HIA to the public health community.
This paper focuses on how HIA invites health practitioners to take not only the impacts on the health of the population into consideration, but also how these impacts could have differential effects
on some groups of the population.

Deliberative Processes and knowledge translation
Public health actors are increasingly being called upon to base their decisions on the best available knowledge. Yet, knowledge translation, which is among other things the effort to make research and other knowledge accessible and useful to practitioners, still faces many challenges. The use of deliberative processes appears to be a promising strategy for overcoming these difficulties.
This fact sheet briefly describes the deliberative model of knowledge translation and its objectives. Two concrete examples are also given to illustrate this discussion.
